We’re committed to making Lake Lyell Recreation Park welcoming and usable for people of all ages and abilities. This accessibility travel statement explains the access features of our park and facilities to help you plan your stay. It also explains how we follow recognised accessibility good practice (including web accessibility standards) and how to contact us if you need more detail or extra assistance.

How to use this page — each section below describes a feature (entry, carpark, office/kiosk, amenities, playground, undercover BBQ area, lake foreshore, campsites). At the end you’ll find how to request assistance, report accessibility issues, or get measurements and photos.

Park Entry & Pathways

Main park entrance: gentle to moderate graded path from the main road to the park reception and carpark; surfaces are bitumen and concrete.

Paths to main facilities: where possible we provide step-free routes with gentle slopes; handrails are provided where gradient or steps are present.

Visual contrast and signage: important signs use clear large text and pictograms to aid people with low vision.

Office & Kiosk

Main office entrance: step-free entry and an 880mm wide doorway to allow mobility aid access.

Counter service: as our countertop is 1270mm in height, our staff can assist customers using wheelchairs or who prefer a seated transaction with their booking enquiries, bookings and checking-in.

Quiet space & communication: staff can provide quieter areas for conversations and written confirmation of bookings. We also accept phone bookings.

Carpark & Parking

Accessible parking: designated accessible parking bays are located close to the office and amenities. Bays are signposted.

Path links: accessible bays connect to step-free paths leading to reception, amenities and picnic areas.

Amenities Block (Toilets & Accessible Shower)

A key is required to access the gender-neutral accessible toilet and shower, located at the campground amenities block. This key can be issued to you on check-in and returned to the office on check-out. Identification (i.e. MPS Card, Carers Card or similar) is required for security purposes.

Accessible toilet: one male and one female accessible toilet is available in the toilet blocks located in the day use area. One gender-neutral accessible toilet is provided in the campgrounds amenities block with grab rails, accessible basin height and clear manoeuvring space.

Accessible shower: there is an accessible shower (level access), an adjustable shower rail/handset and seating in the campgrounds amenities block.

Playground

Inclusive play: the playground includes at-grade surfacing in parts and play equipment designed for a range of ages and abilities.

Access routes: level access paths lead from nearby carparks and picnic areas to the playground.

Undercover BBQ & Picnic Area

 Accessible picnic settings: undercover barbecue area includes three (3) tables (knee clearances and bench height at the end of the tables suitable for seated users) and level access.

 BBQ controls: operable at reachable heights to support independent use.

Lake Foreshore Access

Foreshore access: firm, level pathways lead to key foreshore viewpoints and reserved parking near the boat ramp/shoreline areas are provided. Handrails are provided along the concrete path and small ramp to access the pontoon. Access to the beach swimming area is via a gentle to moderate grassed slope.

Campsites

Variety of site types: we offer a selection of campsites close to amenities and some with step-free access routes for easier mobility.

Surfaces & clearances: accessible sites have level approaches and allow enough room for mobility aids and side transfers to a vehicle or tent.

Powered sites: our powered sites have power points positioned for easy reach from a seated position.

To access the power points for powered sites No.6 to No.9, there is a steep grass embankment at the rear of the campsites with access to these power points at the top of the embankment.

 (If you need an exact site recommendation, tell us the mobility or support needs and we’ll book the most suitable site available).

Ski Lodge Cabin

Accessible parking: accessible parking bay located next to cabin.

Outside surfaces & clearances: cabin has level approach and enough room for mobility aids and side transfers to cabin.

Cabin access: a small step is located at the front and side door entry to the cabin. Doorways leading into bedrooms are 880mm wide to allow mobility aid access.

Accessible picnic settings: undercover barbecue area includes one (1) table (knee clearances and bench height at the end of the table is suitable for seated users) and level access.

BBQ controls: operable at reachable heights to support independent use.

Our Website & Digital Accessibility (WCAG)

Our website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) so people using assistive technologies can access park information, booking details and maps. If you find any issues with our web content (for example, unreadable PDF, missing alternative text for images, poor colour contrast, or navigation problems) please contact us via email or call our friendly team on 02 6355 6347 and we will provide the information in an alternative format (phone, email, PDF, large print).

 Tell us the type of assistance you need so we can offer the best campsite and support.

 If you require a specific accessible amenity (e.g. raised toilet seat), let us know in advance — we will advise what is available and help arrange nearby alternatives if necessary.
