Wake to the sound of water lapping the shore at any one of our thirty-four (34) stunning waterfront unpowered campsites. Perfect for campers seeking a true lakeside experience, each site offers direct access to Lake Lyell’s calm waters—ideal for swimming, kayaking, or casting a fishing line.
Enjoy wide open spaces, beautiful sunsets over the water, and the freedom to set up your camp your way. Unwind around your campfire, watch the stars reflect on the lake, and reconnect with nature. With easy access to the amenities block, BBQ area, and kiosk, these sites combine natural beauty with simple comfort.
Price*
Our waterfront unpowered campsites are $33.00 per night. Your site fee covers five (5) people and one (1) vehicle. Extra guests are $5.00 per person per night with a maximum eight (8) people per site. Extra vehicles are $7.00 per vehicle per night with a maximum two (2) vehicles per site. Extra vehicles will need to be parked in our secure carpark.

Absolute waterfront location – enjoy uninterrupted views and direct lake access from your campsite.
Spacious unpowered sites – perfect for tents, camper trailers, or vans seeking a natural, off-grid stay.
Secure boom gate entry with unique vehicle access code.
Portable campfire pit or you can bring your own (firewood available for purchase at kiosk).
Flushing toilets and hot showers available ($1 for 3 minutes for showers – change at the office).
BBQ area with electric BBQs, picnic tables, and seating near the foreshore.
Rubbish disposal bins and daily-cleaned amenities.
Playground nearby – children must be supervised at all times.
Pet-friendly campsites (dogs must be kept on leads at all times, some breed restrictions apply).
Check-in from 10:30am, check-out by 10:00am (early/late options on request).
Kiosk on site with ice, hot food, drinks, firewood, and camping essentials.
CCTV security for peace of mind.
Quiet time after 10:00pm for a restful night by the lake.
Boat trailer parking at select sites or available near the park office (see staff for details).
Drinking water access from taps at the rear of the amenities block ONLY.
Wildlife-friendly park – please observe, don’t feed or disturb native animals.
Good To Know
The is no water or sullage to our waterfront unpowered campsites.
There is no dump point at Lake Lyell Recreation Park. The nearest dump point is located at the Lithgow Showground.
There is no camp kitchen at Lake Lyell Recreation Park. You will need to bring your own portable camping kitchen and sink.
Inverter generator types up to 2KVA and under 65dB are permitted (not after 10.00pm).
Firewood is available at the kiosk — no collection from the park or roadsides.
For campers wanting extra privacy at your waterfront campsite, portaloo hire is available and can be booked in advance.
Visitors must park in the designated area and follow our Day Use Terms & Conditions.

Great Western Highway closure at Victoria Pass
A detour is currently in place on the Great Western Highway following the closure of Victoria Pass in both directions - but don't let that halt your road-trip adventure as there are Other Ways to the West. The Seven Valleys region is still very much open for business, and there are some genuinely spectacular ways to get here. Our pick is via the Bells Line of Road and Chifley Road from Windsor to Lithgow, and the other is via the Great Western Highway and the Darling Causeway from Mt Victoria to Lithgow via Bell.
If you're travelling from Sydney, follow these handy travel tips to make your journey to Lake Lyell Recreation Park and the Seven Valleys Region a safe and enjoyable one!
Give yourself an extra 30 minutes travel time! There are going to be some delays as you detour via Chifley Road, Mort Street and Main Street Lithgow for the coming months.
Scenic Hill (Chifley Road) located just as you come into Lithgow is perfectly fine for caravans, camper trailers and campervans to navigate. Just take your time particularly on those hairpins and give plenty of space between yourself and other road users.
If you can, avoid travelling through Lithgow during those peak school zone times (8-9:30am and 2:30-4pm). If you have to, please obey the 40km/h speed limit and be vigilant around school pedestrian crossings.
