Can Lake Lyell and the park be used all year round?
Yes, the park is open 365 days a year. On public holidays the office hours may vary. Lke Lyell is open unless there is a red algae alert which if in place this will be advertised on our Facebook page and signage at the entrance to the park. Despite any warning, the campground will be open. Refunds will not be given for algae blooms.
What animals are in and around the park?
Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Australian Bass are the fish species found in Lake Lyell. We also have highly invasive Redfin Perch and Common Carp. If you do catch these species, please do not put them back! The lake is also home to the otter-like native Water-rat or Rakali and the elusive Platypus. With NSW Fisheries and local climitision committee, we also regularly release trout and bass through its NSW DPI Fish Stocking Program.
We are surrounded by seventeen hectares of regenerated native bushland. Home to Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Red-necked Wallaby, Swamp Wallaby, Bare-nosed Wombat, Brush-tailed Possum, and Sugar Glider - you just might be lucky to catch site of them on your visit. If you do see them on our roads, please give way to them, and if see them when passing by, give them their space and please don’t feed them!
Being out in the bush, we are home to some pretty incredible reptiles including snakes and lizards. Snakes and lizards are protected species and a vital part of our environment. They are active during the warmer months and would prefer to avoid humans. If you see one please leave it alone to warm itself in the sun. Walking on established paths will make it less likely that you will disturb them.
Do you have hot showers and flushing toilets?
Yes, we do! Please only use the toilet paper that is supplied and limit the amount of paper that is flushed, we are on septic tanks. The showers are $1 dollar coin for 3 minutes ($1 dollar coins only). Change is available from the office during business hours only. Please leave the showers how you would like to find them! Showers and toilets close at various times for cleaning.
Please be mindful of wasting water, we are on tank water and only have a few showers for a lot of campers.
