  • You can book a campsite either online through our website or over the phone with our friendly team on 02 6355 6347. Head to our website to view our campsite availability, as well as images and measurements of each site so you can choose your favourite spot!

  • The fees for our campsites in the main campground are $33.00 for unpowered sites and $40 for powered sites per night (valid until 31/3/2026).

    In our unreserved areas, it is $20 per night for a campervan, caravan, tent, or rooftop tent, and $15 per night for a swag.

  • For bookings in our main campground, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit on booking of all Lake Lyell camping sites; the remainder is to be paid on arrival. Our Ski Lodge requires full payment (non-refundable) on booking.

    We do not take bookings for our unreserved areas as it is a first come first serve basis. We do ask that you please come to the Office + Kiosk at the main campground to register and pay your camping fees before setting up camp.

  • Your booking fee entitles you to 1 vehicle and 5 persons per site. For any extras there is an additional fee of $7 per night per car and $5 per night per person. Please let our friendly team know at the time of booking and again on check-in if there are additional vehicles and people for your booking.

  • Yes, there is a minimum stay on weekends and holiday periods for our powered and unpowered waterfront sites only. On weekends, there is a minimum 2-night stay for our Ski Lodge Cabin, powered sites, and unpowered waterfront sites.

    On long weekends, all sites including our bushland unpowered sites are a minimum 3-night stay.

  • Our campsites vary in size from 8m (26ft) x 9m (29.5ft) along the waterfront, to our largest 22m (72ft) x 14m (46ft) up on Lachies Lookout. Just head to our website to view images and measurements for each campsite so you can choose the most appropriate size for your Lake Lyell camping set-up.

  • Site 39. This also includes bushland Sites 62-63 and Site 64. If you are unsure if your caravan and campervan will fit our campsites, just head to our website to view images and measurements for each campsite so you can choose the most appropriate size for your Lake Lyell camping set-up.

  • Check-in for all campsites is from 10:30am and from 2pm for the Ski Lodge Cabin, until 6pm Saturday to Thursday and 7pm on Friday. If you think you will be arriving later than 6pm (Saturday to Thursday) or 7pm (Friday) please call our friendly team on 02 6355 6347 during office hours (8am – 6pm) to organise for a late check-in. Failure to organise a late check-in will result in you not being able to access the campgrounds.

  • On arrival, please park your vehicle in the guest check-in parking and head into the office. The office is located on your left before the boom gate, and on the bottom floor of the two-storey building.

    At the office, you can pay the remaining amount owing on your booking (if applicable) and be provided with your gate code to access the campgrounds.

  • Check-out for all campsites and the Ski Lodge Cabin is strictly 10am.

  • Long weekends and school holidays are our peak periods, so we like to monitor this period on a regular basis for the comfort of all our campers. Please give us a call on 02 6355 6347 and chat to our friendly team about availability during these periods.

  • It sure is! We welcome your furry friends at Lake Lyell camping. We ask that you please keep them on a lead and that they are always supervised. Remember to also pick-up after them and that any waste is bagged and placed in our general waste skip bins located at the entrance to the campgrounds.

  • Yes, you are. Each campsite has it’s own firepit, or you are welcome to bring your own portable campfire pit if you have one.

    Just remember that campfires are not permitted during a Total Fire Ban. If you are unsure if there is Total Fire Ban for Lake Lyell please head to the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) website and click on the Central Ranges for the Lithgow region. We will also notify campers in person and via our pre-arrival phone call if there is a Total Fire Ban in place.

    As our campgrounds are in a nature reserve, we ask that you please not collect firewood and kindling (twigs and branches) from our park. Failure to do so will result in park bans.

  • You can bring your own firewood; however, it must be already cut to size to fit in our firepits (no longer than 400mm) and de-nailed. Firewood and kindling can also be purchased from the kiosk during office hours (8am – 6pm). You cannot collect firewood and kindling (twigs and branches) from our park as it is a nature reserve.

  • If you need to cancel your booking, please call our friendly team on 02 6355 6347 during office hours (8am – 6pm).

    Please be aware that your 50% deposit, paid on booking, is non-refundable. If you contact us at least 72 hours (3 days) prior to the day of check-in, you can change your booking to another date if it is available. Bookings can only be changed once.

  • We have two unreserved areas – our Eastern Unreserved Area opposite the main campground at the end of Lockyer’s Line, and our Western Unreserved Area located over the back at Magpie Hollow.

    The Eastern Unreserved Area is open all year round. The Western Unreserved Area is only open on long weekends and select peak periods. To avoid disappointment, we recommend giving our friendly team a call on 02 6355 6347 before arriving to find out if it is open.

    You cannot book the unreserved areas as they are on a first come first serve basis.

    In our unreserved areas, it is $20 per night for a campervan, caravan, tent, or rooftop tent, and $15 per night for a swag.

  • There are drop toilets available in our Western Unreserved Area, and no toilets available in our Eastern Unreserved Area.

    Campers wishing to stay in our Eastern Unreserved Area need to be fully self-sufficient with your own portable cassette chemical toilet and water. Portaloo’s are available for hire (subject to availability) for $50.00 per night, with a minimum two-night booking. Please call our friendly team on 02 6355 6347 to book.

  • Our popular waterfront Ski Lodge Cabin is our only cabin available at our park. It is a self-contained powered cabin that sleeps up to eight (8) people with parking for two (2) vehicles.

    Please note there is no running water or bathroom facilities in the Ski Lodge Cabin.

    The Ski Lodge Cabin is $180 per night (valid until 31/03/2025) with a minimum two (2) night stay. To secure your booking, we require full payment (non-refundable) on booking. To book, please contact our friendly team on 02 6355 6347 or head to our website.

  • No sorry, we don’t have a dump point at the park. The nearest dump point is at Tony Luchetti Sportsground in Lithgow, approximately 15 minutes away. You can also fill your water tanks there too.

  • Unfortunately, no you can’t as we are on tank water here at Lake Lyell. The nearest location to fill up your water tanks is at the Tony Lucetti Sportsground in Lithgow, which also has a dump point.

  • From Saturday to Thursday, we are open from 8:00am to 6:00pm. On Fridays, we are open from 8am to 7pm.

    On Christmas Day (25 December), we are open from 8:00am to 10:00am.

    Please note these may be subject to change.

  • Yes, we allow inverter generators no greater than 2kva and no louder than 65dB (decibels). Simply, if you have to yell over the noise of the generator, it’s too loud! We also ask that you be considerate of the other campers by not running it all the time and not past 10:00pm.

  • You sure can! Make the most of our playground, free electric BBQs and of course the fishing & boating!

    Entry to the day use area of the park is as follows:

    - $7 per vehicle inclusive of boat

    - $2 per motorbike or bike

    - $2 per pedestrian

    - Buses: $2 per person

    We just ask that you please be respectful of our campers and not go beyond the day use area into the campgrounds. If you’re a little unsure as to where you can go, refer to the day use visitor guide and map that’s available at the Office + Kiosk.

  • Yes, of course you can. Just pop-in to the office first before making your way into the park and have a chat with our friendly team. We're always accommodating and more than happy to allow prospective campers to inspect the campgrounds without charge.

  • We have rainbow trout, brown trout, Australian bass & invasive species such as European carp and redfin (If you do catch these two species, please don’t put them back).

    Yes, everyone over the age of 18 needs a fishing licence in NSW. You can purchase short or long-term fishing licences online at Service NSW.

  • Unfortunately, there is no WIFI at the park. There is some mobile phone service, though it depends on your carrier and location within the park.

  • Yes, you can use jet skis at Lake Lyell Recreation Park. We have access to the lake with a boat ramp and it’s a fantastic spot for boating, water skiing and kayaking as well!

  • Yes definitely! The lake is a beautiful spot for a dip, and we have a roped-off swim spot on the beach for kids and day visitors.

  • If you have a booking along the waterfront, you can moor your boat from the shore at the front of your campsite. For all other bookings, boat owners will need to remove their boat from the water and store it either at their campsite or in our secure car park located at the entry to the park. Boat owners are not allowed to moor their boats at the pontoon.

  • We do have two free electric BBQs located in the undercover barbeque area next to the playground.

    Unfortunately, we do not have a camp kitchen. You will need to bring your own camp kitchen including dish washing facilities for the duration of your stay. We ask that campers please not use our bathroom sinks and water taps at the rear of the amenities block to clean your camp cutlery, crockery and cookware.

  • Unfortunately, we don’t have an EV charging station at the park, and our powered sites are not compatible to charge EV’s due to the potential of overloading the parks power system. Charging stations for EV’s are located at various locations in Lithgow NSW 2790.

  • There is mobile phone reception but it is limited for certain carriers. The best campsites for mobile phone reception are located in our Main Campground up on Lachies Lookout (Sites 53 through to Site 61) and over at our Eastern Unreserved Area.
